A plane bound for Toronto was forced to divert to Iceland after a Canadian man allegedly became violent and tried to open the plane door in mid-air.
The Polish airline said LOT Polish Airlines Flight 41 was en route from Warsaw, Poland to Toronto on Thursday when the incident occurred a few hours into the flight.
A spokesperson for the airline told CTV News Toronto that the altercation started after a flight attendant refused to serve alcohol.
Krzysztof Mokrzulski, the press officer for LOT Polish Airlines, told CTV News Toronto: "The man then went to the back kitchen and shouted at crew members."
"The passenger was about to collide with one of the crew members, but other passengers ran to the kitchen and tried to calm him down."
Mokrzulski said the passenger became so aggressive that at least five passengers banded together to subdue him in the aisle.
The airline said the passengers on the flight worked together to deal with the man after he became violent.
But he managed to slip away from them and flee toward the plane doors, trying to open them.
Mokrzulski said the pilot made the decision for an emergency landing in Reykjavik.
When the plane landed in Reykjavik, police boarded the plane and arrested the man.
LOT Polish Airlines said no one was physically injured.
