Tajon Buchanan, Canada national team winger, was taken to the hospital after sustaining a leg injury during training.
The American newspaper "The New York Times" reported, citing the Canadian Soccer Association, that Buchanan, 25 years old, suffered an injury to his lower leg during training yesterday evening, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment while awaiting more details about his condition.
A statement from the Canadian Soccer Association indicated that Buchanan was transported to the hospital by ambulance, noting that the training session ended after the injury.
The statement added, "We will provide updates as more information becomes available."
Buchanan participated in all three of Canada's matches in the group stage of the Copa America 2024, currently being held in the United States.
The player was in the starting lineup for Canada's 0-2 loss to Argentina in the opening match of the tournament, before coming on as a substitute in the victory over Peru and the draw with Chile in the tournament's first group.
Canada, participating in the Copa America for the first time, qualified for the knockout stage of the competition after finishing second in their group, where they will play against Venezuela, the top team in Group B, in the quarterfinals.
Buchanan has made 25 international appearances for the Canadian national team since his debut in 2021, scoring 4 goals. He joined Italian club Inter Milan from Belgian club Club Brugge last January and participated in 10 matches with his team in the second half of the last season, scoring one goal.
