Russian Andrey Rublev defeated Italian Matteo Arnaldi with a score of 6-4 and 6-2, advancing to the final of the Canada Open tennis tournament in Montreal.

The rain caused a two-hour delay in play while the score was 6-4 and 1-1, and after the match resumed, Rublev won five of the last six games.

Rublev said after the match, "The wait was worth it, I am happy to reach my first final in Canada."

In the other semifinal match, Australian Alexei Popyrin broke American Sebastian Korda's winning streak after 8 consecutive wins, advancing to the final by winning 6-3 and 7-6 (7-0).

Popyrin explained, "It's an amazing achievement, and it means a lot to me; sometimes you need to praise yourself."

In the women's competition, American Amanda Anisimova reached the final of the Canada Open for the first time in her career, after defeating her fellow countrywoman Emma Navarro with a score of 6-3, 2-6, and 6-2.

Anisimova said, "It's a big achievement for me, and I worked very hard to achieve it."

Anisimova is preparing to face another American, defending champion Jessica Pegula, who advanced to the final after defeating Russian Diana Schneider 6-4 and 6-3.

Pegula added, "Having the opportunity to defend my title doesn't happen often, so I'm very excited."

She noted, "It's great to have my name associated with many big stars who have successfully defended their titles here."

Pegula will defend her Canada Open title against compatriot Amanda Anisimova in the final.

While Pegula will defend the title she won last year, Anisimova will play her first final in a 1000-point tournament.
