Ottawa police said officers are investigating a "suspicious incident" after a body was found in a home last night, Tuesday, on Clark Street in the Cummings area, in the eastern part of the city.

The police announced that they were called around 8:20 p.m. due to a fire in building 600 on Clark Street.

"This was a tiered response by Ottawa Fire Services and Ottawa Paramedics," the city police service stated in a release today, Wednesday. "A deceased person was found at the scene."

Ottawa Fire Services public information officer Nick DeVazio told media that firefighters received a call reporting a fire in the home; however, when they arrived at the scene, the flames had already extinguished and there was no need to put them out.

The police say the scene is classified as an active crime scene.

Ottawa police added in the statement: "All fires are treated as suspicious until deemed otherwise, and once the cause is determined, appropriate action may be taken, which could include a criminal investigation," until last night, there was an Ottawa police patrol car outside a house on Clark Street.

Clark Street is off Saint-Laurent Street.
