Education Minister Stephen Lecce revealed on Thursday that Canada places great importance on education and student learning.
He confirmed that students in Ontario will learn home economics to understand family economics, such as managing a household budget and how to protect themselves from financial fraud.
He also stated that students will need to achieve at least 70 percent on the financial literacy test in order to graduate, which will first be administered in Grade 10 mathematics.
He noted that students will need financial literacy requirements starting in 2025. The province will also reinstate the mathematics proficiency test for students applying to teacher's college.
Lecce added that the province will also update guidance and career education, as it has not been updated since 2013.
