A total of 67 livestock died after a fire broke out in a barn early Saturday morning.
Firefighters from several departments were called to the scene around 1 a.m. on Wellington Road 17 near Alma, Ontario.
The fire ignited in a dairy farm barn, and officials said no one was injured, but a number of livestock died.
The firefighting operation continued for 10 hours to extinguish the hot spots. Jason Payne, deputy fire chief of the Wellington Fire Rescue Services, said, "The steel roof as well as the concrete slabs on the floor did not allow us to confront the fire as quickly as possible." "But we were then able to control the fire."
With the loss of livestock and structural damage, the estimated cost of the damage is around 4.5-5 million dollars. Fire officials say it is difficult to determine the cause of the fire in a building like the barn.
