The head of the Norwegian medical team in Gaza, Dr. Mads Gilbert, called for a ceasefire, confirming the death of more than 24,000 Palestinians, in addition to 60,000 injured after 100 days since the beginning of the aggression.
He added in an intervention via «Al Cairo News» channel: "All of this must stop, and this should have happened from the first week, as the health situation in Gaza is beyond catastrophic. We have hospitals destroyed, and the occupation and its army have destroyed about 30 hospitals out of 34 and closed 53 health facilities."
He continued, saying that the occupation killed more than 400 paramedics and doctors and destroyed more than 120 ambulances, emphasizing that the hospitals in the Gaza Strip and the health system are collapsed and extremely overcrowded, and the siege in Gaza continues, pointing out that the occupation does not allow enough water, fuel, or even electricity, supplies, and medical aid to enter.
Meanwhile, Switzerland announced the allocation of an additional amount estimated at 90 million Swiss francs, nearly 102 million US dollars, as humanitarian aid in response to the tragic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, "81 million Swiss francs for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and 9 million Swiss francs for the region, including Egypt."
The Embassy of Switzerland in Cairo stated in a press release today, Sunday, that the funds will be disbursed based on the needs of organizations of the International Committee of the Red Cross, national societies in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UNICEF, the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization, Terre des Hommes Switzerland, and Doctors of the World Switzerland Foundation.
It added that in Egypt, Switzerland supports the Egyptian Red Crescent through a contribution of 4 million Swiss francs to the regional appeal of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), aimed at addressing the regional consequences of the war in Gaza in neighboring countries.
The embassy explained that Switzerland's commitments will include meeting basic humanitarian needs such as water, food, and medical care for Gaza's citizens, noting that Switzerland has reallocated contributions in Egypt to support relief efforts carried out by the Egyptian Red Crescent and the United Nations Population Fund.
Switzerland also endorsed the resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council on December 22 last year, aimed at increasing humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.
