A young man carrying a white weapon in the shape of a cleaver attacked three police officers during the New Year's Eve celebration on Saturday evening in New York, according to U.S. authorities.
The young man struck two of them on the head before a police officer fired at his shoulder about eight blocks from Times Square, outside the heavily guarded area.
The authorities said the two officers were taken to the hospital, one with a skull fracture and the other with a severe wound, but both are expected to recover.
