Low temperatures across most of the United States caused millions of Americans to face potentially severe cold on Sunday.

Polar storms threatened snowy, nearly stormy conditions in the Northeast, with several inches of snow falling in parts of the South.

The U.S. National Weather Service also warned that stormy and extremely cold weather in the states of Montana and Dakota could lead to wind chill temperatures dropping to 56 degrees Celsius below zero.

The agency said it had issued weather or wind chill warnings for about 95 million people, informing them that temperatures could reach minus 17 degrees Celsius.

Experts also said the severe cold extended south to northern Texas.

Officials urged residents to stay off roads in Buffalo, New York, where snowfalls between 0.3 to 0.6 meters are expected.

A severe storm forced the postponement of the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers from Sunday to Monday.

Zack Taylor, a meteorologist at Maryland's National Weather Service, also said that winds could reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

He added, "We expect heavy snowfall, as well as strong winds. That is why we expect to experience sometimes near-storm and snowy conditions."

Another polar storm that caused heavy snowfall in the Rocky Mountains is expected to move south.

This storm may bring 4 to 6 inches (0.10 to 0.15 meters) of snow in areas of Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and western Tennessee.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Governor of Arkansas, declared a state of emergency before the storm arrived to give trucks transporting essential supplies greater flexibility in dealing with emergencies.

Power was cut off to more than 150,000 homes and businesses in Oregon on Sunday after heavy snow and ice storms.

The bad weather also caused the deaths of three people in Oregon.

Portland fire authorities announced the death of a woman in her early thirties on Saturday afternoon.

A fire broke out in a mobile home when several people used an open-flame heater for warmth, and a tree fell on the vehicle, causing the fire to spread.

The fire department stated that three other people escaped; one suffered minor injuries, but the woman remained trapped inside.

Authorities in Lake Oswego, Oregon, said a large tree fell on a house during strong winds on Saturday, killing an elderly resident living on the second floor.
