Bild am Sonntag newspaper said that the man who stormed Hamburg airport on Saturday evening and reached the runway with a car without a license plate along with his four-year-old daughter demands to head to Turkey.

In detail, on Saturday evening the man broke through security barriers with his car and entered the aircraft maintenance area. He stopped the car next to a passenger plane belonging to Turkish Airlines. All passengers were evacuated and no one was injured during that.

Also, shortly before security officers discovered the man, his wife called the police and warned that her husband headed to the airport with their daughter.

The newspaper mentioned that the man is 35 years old, of Turkish origin, and lives in the German state of Lower Saxony; he kidnapped the girl from her mother and fled with her.

Meanwhile, a local police representative confirms that the man is now holed up in the car with the daughter, and negotiations are being conducted with him in Turkish.

Hamburg police said via the X platform that "a large security operation is being carried out on the airport runway. This concerns a hostage situation."

The police representative also added: "He wants to talk to us, and we consider that a very positive sign."

At the scene, a group of investigators, police officers, and a specialized psychologist are working. As Hamburg police pointed out, the reason for the man's behavior may be a dispute over custody of the child.

In an update, the police said that all morning flights at the mentioned airport have been canceled.
