Toronto police have charged a man from Ontario who allegedly threatened to harm protesters outside a downtown hospital earlier this week.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the police said the accused contacted them on February 14 to express frustration "towards people who were protesting in front of a Toronto hospital," without mentioning his name.

Police allege that the accused, a man from Simcoe County in Ontario, threatened to go to the hospital to harm the protesters.

Toronto police said in a statement that Paul Scofield, 49, has been charged with making threats to kill.

Police also confirmed to CTV that they received the call two days after a demonstration was held outside Mount Sinai.

Monday’s protests at the historic Jewish hospital saw some protesters climbing scaffolding and waving pro-Palestinian flags in an incident described by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a "disgraceful" display of anti-Semitism.
Police have since opened an investigation into the incident.

Protest organizers said earlier this week that the hospital was not targeted and it just happened to be located along the usual rally route.

Toronto police increased their presence along the hospital row following the protest.

Police also said in a statement earlier this week: "Interfering with hospital operations is unacceptable."

The statement read: “As we have said before, officers use their discretion during large public demonstrations, and even if arrests are not safe at that time, investigations will continue and charges may be laid later.”
