The U.S. Central Command announced early Monday, November 27, 2023, the launch of two ballistic missiles from areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen towards a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Gulf of Aden.
At the same time, U.S. officials announced that a U.S. Navy warship responded to a distress call from a commercial tanker in the Gulf of Aden that was held by armed men, adding that the tanker is now safe.
The U.S. military said in a statement that the "Mason" ship, supported by allied ships, demanded the attackers release the commercial ship, while the company owning the tanker announced that it is named "Central Park," and that it was carrying a shipment of phosphoric acid.
Regarding the targeting of the destroyer, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement on the "X" platform that "the two ballistic missiles fell in the Gulf of Aden at a distance of 10 nautical miles from the U.S. destroyer without causing damage or injuries to the destroyer."
General Michael Eric Kurilla, commander of the U.S. Central Command, also said, "Maritime domain security is vital for regional stability. We will continue working with allies and partners to ensure the safety and security of international shipping lanes."
