The Kuwaiti government submitted its resignation to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, today Wednesday, shortly after he took the constitutional oath before the National Assembly in a special session.
The Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah submitted the government's resignation to Sheikh Mishal during his reception today at Seif Palace.
The new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, took the constitutional oath as the Emir of the country before the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Ahmad Al-Saadoun, had invited on December 18 of this month to attend the Assembly's special public session today Wednesday for Sheikh Mishal Al-Sabah to take the constitutional oath as Emir of the country before the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly stated, according to the Kuwait News Agency, that this came at the government's request in implementation of the provisions of Article (60) of the Constitution, which states that "the Emir shall take the oath before exercising his powers in a special session of the National Assembly," based on Article (72) of the internal regulations of the National Assembly.
For his part, the new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Sabah, stated that as a political leadership, we must be close to everyone, emphasizing the importance of follow-up, monitoring, and objective accountability within the framework of the Constitution.
The Emir added, during the oath-taking session before the National Assembly: "I have taken over the reins of power as a duty, not an honor, pledging to fight all forms of corruption," continuing: "I swear to God and the people that I will be a loyal citizen to his country and people."
He continued: "Accountability is important within the framework of the law regarding any neglect of the interests of the people, and we, with everyone, are loyal to the homeland and the citizens."
