The authorities reported that the plane crashed near the Gmünd am Metall area, and a wide search operation was launched to find its wreckage in a mountainous area that had witnessed heavy snowfall.
The police also confirmed the opening of an investigation into the plane crash, the cause of which is still unknown, as well as the plane's final destination.
The identities of the victims of the accident were not immediately identified.
Meanwhile, the Austrian news agency quoted the Aviation Safety Network website as saying that a single-engine plane of the model "Rockwell Commander 112B" had taken off from Příbram Airport in the Czech Republic heading to Medulin in Croatia.
