The Somali National Intelligence killed 7 members of Al-Shabaab including leaders in the Middle Shabelle region in central Somalia.
According to the Somali News Agency "SONA", today Saturday, "7 members of the Kharijite militia including leaders were killed in a planned military operation".
Somalia uses the term "Kharijite militia" to refer to Al-Shabaab.
The agency pointed out that "the military operation carried out by the security and national intelligence forces in cooperation with international partners took place in the Fido area of Mahaday city in the Middle Shabelle region".
It noted that "among the leaders killed in the military operation was the ambush attacks official of the militias in Middle Shabelle, Abdulrahman Tiry, the leader Maad who also works in the ambush attacks section, and the leader Abdurazaq Musa Khalif who holds the position of deputy official in collecting funds and looting citizens' property".
Al-Shabaab has been launching attacks to overthrow the Somali government since 2007 to impose Islamic Sharia law.
