Jordanian King Abdullah II affirmed today, Monday, that any scenario or thinking about re-occupying parts of Gaza or establishing buffer zones there will exacerbate the crisis, stressing that this is unacceptable and constitutes an assault on Palestinian rights.
King Abdullah II reiterated during his meeting at Al-Husseiniya Palace with the heads of the Senate and House of Representatives, former prime ministers, and politicians, that military or security solutions cannot succeed, emphasizing the necessity of stopping the war and launching a serious political process leading to a two-state solution.
He also stressed the importance of the unity of Palestinian territories and supporting the legitimate authority, warning that Gaza should not be separated from the rest of the Palestinian territories.
King Abdullah II confirmed that the top priority today is to stop the war on Gaza and to bring in sufficient aid, calling on the international community to immediately halt the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip in respect of international law and the United Nations Charter.
He considered that what Gaza is witnessing in terms of collective punishment, killing of civilians, and the destruction of all vital facilities including hospitals and places of worship is unacceptable by divine laws or human values, pointing out that he clearly warned that Israeli violations in the West Bank and Jerusalem, including settler attacks, will lead to an explosion of the situation in the region and an expansion of the conflict.
King Abdullah II reiterated that the root of the crisis is the occupation and the deprivation of Palestinians from their legitimate rights, saying "The solution starts here, any other path results in failure and more cycles of violence and destruction."
He emphasized that no one can outbid Jordan's firm stance and continuous efforts in defending our people in Gaza, saying "We have been and will remain the strong support and main backer of our brothers in Palestine," explaining that Jordan's positions towards the Palestinian cause are constant and stem from an absolute belief that what connects us to Palestine is a shared history and future.
