Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid called on Friday for the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu's government after a drone attack carried out by the Yemeni "Houthi" group, the first of its kind on Tel Aviv, which resulted in the death of one Israeli and the injury of 10 others.

Lapid stated in a post on the "X" platform that "the drone crash in Tel Aviv is further evidence that this government does not know how to and cannot provide security for the citizens of Israel."

He added: "Whoever loses deterrence in the north (Lebanon) and the south (Gaza) also loses it in the heart of Tel Aviv," according to the Anadolu Agency.

Lapid continued: "There are no policies or plans; all public relations and discussions revolve around themselves (the government). They must go, and we will know how to establish an effective government that restores security and strength to Israel."

According to the Israeli broadcasting authority, one Israeli was killed and 10 others were injured after a drone fell in the middle of Tel Aviv.

It added: "A fifty-year-old man was killed this morning, and 10 others were lightly injured and panicked due to an explosion from a bomb-laden drone that occurred at exactly 3:15 AM at the intersection of Shalom Aleichem and Ben Yehuda streets, just hundreds of meters from the US Embassy."

It continued: "The sirens were not activated."

For its part, the Israeli occupation army stated in a written statement: "Initial examination indicates that the explosion in Tel Aviv resulted from the fall of an aerial target without an alarm being activated."

It added: "The matter is under deep investigation, and many forces are working at the site during this time."
