The threat level to Israelis has risen in 80 countries as a result of the Gaza war, according to a new list published by the National Security Council.
The Israeli National Security Council said, "There are increasing efforts by Iran and its proxies, such as Hamas, as well as by elements of global jihad, to attack Israeli and Jewish targets worldwide."
The statement said: “This coincides with a continuous and significant increase in incitement, attempted attacks, and the spread of anti-Semitic manifestations in many countries.”
A National Security Council official said, “We cannot say do not go, what we can say is that Israelis should think about the place they are going to.”
The official mentioned that there is an unprecedented level of potential violence either due to terrorist attempts or increasing anti-Semitism, and those travelling should take that into consideration.
Major Western countries have risen to the concern level
Many Western countries have been moved from the Council's first level category, which is "basic precautionary measures," to the second level, which is "increased precautionary measures."
The United Kingdom, Germany, and France were included in that list, as well as Brazil, Argentina, Australia, and Russia.
In other cases, such as South Africa, Eritrea, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan, the warning was raised to level 3, meaning Israelis should only consider those locations for essential travel.
The National Security Council recommended postponing travel to countries with high warning levels like those in the Middle East or North Caucasus, countries surrounding Iran, and many Islamic countries in Asia.
The National Council said "Israelis should avoid demonstrations and protests.”
Travelers should also check ongoing events at their destination to see if there is anti-Israel or anti-Jewish activity, even for countries considered largely safe.
Once out of the country, travelers “should avoid displaying Israeli and Jewish symbols, and large gatherings of Israeli officials and Jews.”
The National Security Council said those traveling should also keep contact information for the embassy or consulate as well as emergency services with them.
