Iraq.. Death of 4 children in a fire at the maternity hospital in Diwaniya and formation of investigation committees to determine the causes of the incident

The Iraqi Minister of Health, Saleh Al-Hasnawi, announced the formation of investigative committees to determine the causes of the fire at the maternity hospital in Al-Diwaniyah governorate, noting the death of 4 children, and that the causes of death are being determined.

In statements to the Iraqi News Agency "INA", Saleh Al-Hasnawi explained: "Based on the directives of the Prime Minister, we went to the scene of the fire incident at the Diwaniyah hospital, and the governor, the Director General of Health, a number of deputies, and security officials in the governorate were also present," noting that he "met with the employees and the working company and listened to their testimonies."

Al-Hasnawi said: "The incident resulted in the death of 4 children due to suffocation, and investigative committees have been formed that will start their work now based on the directives of the Prime Minister to identify the causes of the fire and hold the negligent accountable."

He added: "The committees include a security intelligence one to determine the motives, the second from civil defense to determine the causes of the fire, and the third administrative from the Ministry of Health headed by the Director General of the Inspection Department, and the results of the committees will be announced within 3 days," adding: "Administrative measures have been taken against Ministry of Health employees in Al-Diwaniyah, initially suspending them and awaiting the investigation results."

The Minister of Health expressed "his thanks to the security forces and daily wage workers in the hospital for their courage, bravery, and zeal."
