Obstetrician and gynecologist license revoked in Montreal

After making sexually inappropriate comments to a patient during labor. Dr. Alan B. Clemens, 73, is no longer allowed to practice medicine after the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) removed his name from the list of doctors.

Clemens has been practicing medicine since 1981 and obtained his obstetrics and gynecology certification in 1983.

According to a decision published by the college's disciplinary committee, Clemens was examining a patient in the delivery room at the Jewish General Hospital on April 22.

The document states that "the doctor made comments that were inappropriate and/or sexual in nature to his patient," noting that Clemens told her "Thank you for the good time."

Her partner was not in the room at the time. Additionally, the committee notes that the doctor did not respect previous restrictions imposed on him by the CMQ on July 15, 2021, namely "being alone in the presence of a female... where the examination is conducted."

The committee also found that he neglected to update his patient's file after several examinations.

This is not the first time Clemens has been disciplined for making sexual comments to a pregnant patient.

In 2019, he was fined $2,500 and suspended for two years for speaking to a patient unethically.

According to the disciplinary committee, Clemens told a patient in 2015, "You have a great little body, I can't wait to examine you, and I am sure you have a beautiful vagina."

Before being suspended, he was given two warnings for previous inappropriate comments, and between 1989 and 2020, Clemens faced 11 disciplinary investigations.
