Child payments in Canada provide millions of families with financial assistance to raise children across the country, and the amount of money you can receive annually has recently increased.

In the summer of 2023, the maximum annual child benefit for each child under six years old increased by $440, from $6,997 to $7,437, and the amount for each child aged between 6 and 17 increased from $5,903 to $6,275 - an additional $372 annually.

Parents can expect more in July 2024.

The Canadian Employment and Social Development Ministry will increase child tax payments by 4.7%, meaning the maximum entitlement for a child under six will rise by $350, from $7,437 to $7,787.

Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development Karina Gould spoke about other benefit measures that may be overlooked and that families can consider.
