Saudi Airlines said that one of its planes was involved in an "accident" at the airport of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, before its scheduled departure to Riyadh today, Saturday, April 13, 202, without providing further details.
The company announced in a statement the suspension of its flights to and from Sudan until further notice.
The Sudanese "Rapid Support Forces" announced this morning that they "managed to take control of Khartoum Airport and the Merowe military base," and eyewitnesses told Reuters agency about a dense smoke rising from inside Khartoum airport. Their forces spread heavily inside the airport and besieged the control tower and asked employees to stop performing their duties. It was also announced that passengers were evacuated from planes at Khartoum International Airport and that flight operations were halted.
