A study conducted by American researchers revealed that consuming two servings of beans daily could reduce body mass index, weight, and waist size.
The results also showed that individuals who regularly consume beans enjoy a healthier diet, rich in nutrients that many often overlook, according to the British newspaper "Mirror".
Beans, especially red ones, may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and control cholesterol levels.
When this diet is paired with a healthy lifestyle, the risk of developing health issues significantly decreases.
The study indicated that consuming beans slightly increases sodium intake, which may lead to elevated blood pressure, but the increase in potassium from beans helped balance the effect of sodium, leading to lower blood pressure.
The researchers stated that sodium levels could be reduced by rinsing and draining the beans before consumption.
The study found that individuals who consume beans have higher levels of essential nutrients, such as vitamin E, magnesium, iron, folic acid, choline, calcium, potassium, and dietary fiber.
Their diet also contained higher amounts of plant proteins and seafood, compared to those who avoided legumes.
