The Israeli newspaper "The Jerusalem Post" quoted an eyewitness saying, "The Israeli civilian who rushed to work to stop a terrorist attack that was happening last week was shot and killed by an Israeli soldier. He shouted, 'I am Jewish, don't shoot' in the moments before he was shot, and surveillance footage showed the man kneeling on the ground with his hands raised as well."
The military police questioned the Israeli soldier suspected of accidentally shooting Yuval on Sunday, according to Maariv.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said, "This is life" in response to the incident, which sparked sharp criticism from the man's father as well as Knesset member Benny Gantz.
Moshe Kasselman, the father of Yuval Doron Kasselman, called for criminal charges against the Israeli soldier who shot his son, in an interview on Channel 103FM on Sunday morning.
He told Channel 103FM: "This must end with filing charges against the person who shot him." "I don't care now if he was wearing the uniform or not. He acted criminally. He must pay a heavy price."
Yuval Doron Kasselman was trying to save many lives. However, unfortunately, a terrible tragedy occurred there - the man who saved others was killed, Netanyahu said after speaking with Kasselman's father by phone on Sunday: "There must be a thorough investigation."
Kasselman, who is 37 years old, helped neutralize Hamas militants who killed three and injured four in a shooting attack at a bus station at the entrance of Jerusalem on Thursday morning.
Surveillance video shows that he was then shot by a soldier from the Israeli army, even though he was kneeling with his hands raised. He was taken to the hospital and later died from his wounds that day. The army said in a statement that the soldier thought he was a terrorist.
Shin Bet and the Israeli police opened an investigation into the incident, and the military police are also investigating. Critics blamed the incident on what they say is an unofficial policy recently adopted by the army to shoot to kill even unarmed terrorists.
