The European Commission announced its intention to allocate 125 million euros as humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in 2024, especially with the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
In a press release published by the European Union External Action Service - on its website today, Saturday, it stated that this new funding will support humanitarian organizations operating in both Gaza and the West Bank.
The statement mentioned that "in Gaza, where humanitarian needs have reached their highest levels ever, the focus will be on life-saving emergency response and restoring access to basic needs such as water, food, healthcare, shelter, and sanitation. The humanitarian response will also prioritize the protection of the most vulnerable groups, psychosocial support, and education in emergencies."
It added: "As for the West Bank, where many Palestinian communities are at risk of displacement or are already forcibly displaced, EU-funded humanitarian projects will provide protection services, such as legal assistance or material aid to people affected by settler violence, property confiscation, or loss of livelihoods, and will support their access to essential services and education in emergencies. EU-funded humanitarian aid will be provided in accordance with humanitarian principles, neutrality, impartiality, and independence, and will be delivered through UN humanitarian agencies, NGOs, the International Committee of the Red Cross, in addition to many of its local partner relief organizations."
The statement continued: "With each passing day, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens. In response, the Commission has swiftly mobilized its extensive range of emergency response tools. Through organizing a total of 30 humanitarian airlifts, 1000 tons of aid have already been sent to those in need in Gaza."
