Spanish club Barcelona has expressed interest in signing the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's winger, as the player's contract with the Reds nears its end.
The English newspaper "Liverpool Echo" raised several questions about Mohamed Salah, the most important being whether Salah will be close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, or if he will stay at Anfield, or head to a new league?
The newspaper stated that Barcelona has made Mohamed Salah the "top target" over Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in the upcoming summer transfer window, especially since he has not yet reached a final agreement with Liverpool's management, leaving the door open to other clubs.
The newspaper confirmed that Alex McLeish, former English Premier League manager, previously predicted that Brazilian Roberto Firmino might look to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window after being excluded from many matches. Additionally, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Firmino are not among Jurgen Klopp's attacking options, and the 30-year-old player may seek a new challenge in his career.
On the other hand, negotiations between Liverpool club and their Egyptian star remain complicated regarding the Pharaoh's future at Anfield. Mohamed Salah's contract ends on June 30, 2023, and he has the right to leave for free on July 1 if an agreement is not reached with Liverpool management, according to English press reports.
The "90 Min" network, citing its sources at Liverpool, confirmed that negotiations between the two sides are still complicated and somewhat distant despite recently resuming after stopping in December 2021.
It added that Liverpool wants to make Mohamed Salah the highest-paid player in the English club, but they are hesitant about that, as Virgil van Dijk earns a salary of £250,000 as the highest-paid player, but Mohamed Salah wants £400,000 per week.
The newspaper explained that Liverpool intends to increase its offer so that Mohamed Salah gets a salary higher than £300,000, while the Egyptian wants £400,000. The negotiations are still ongoing, which gives hope for contract renewal.
Meanwhile, the "Sunday World" website, via journalist Kevin Palmer, confirmed that the English club will make a final offer to Mohamed Salah to renew his contract for an additional period.
Palmer explained that the new offer will not exceed a salary of £300,000 per week, making it close to Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, the highest-paid at Liverpool.
The British journalist stated that Liverpool will work to appease Salah by adding some additional bonuses related to the team's victories and achievements.
While the account of "Anfield Watch," specialized in following Liverpool news, said that Salah will receive a weekly salary of £400,000.
The account quoted David Maddock, a journalist at the British "Mirror" newspaper, who confirmed that Klopp emphasized to the club management the necessity of renewing Mohamed Salah's contract, despite the player nearing 30 years old.
Salah is considered one of Liverpool's standout stars since joining them in the summer of 2017 from Italian Roma. He led them to 5 titles, most notably the English Premier League after 30 years, and the Champions League for the sixth time. He also won the Premier League top scorer title twice.
