Five days after the massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde that claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers, Biden visited the site in Texas on Sunday to express his solidarity with the relatives of the victims of the shooting that shocked the United States and revived the debate over gun ownership.

Upon arrival, Biden and his wife Jill Biden laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial for the victims.

Biden said in a speech delivered on Saturday: "We cannot prevent tragedies, I know that. But we can make America safer," expressing his regret for "the killing of this many innocents in this many places."

Biden is meeting in Uvalde with families of the victims, local officials, and religious officials.

Biden will be able to console the relatives of the victims in their suffering, but he will not be able to make promises to take steps that meet the demands for stricter oversight on the possession and use of firearms.

And the Democrats, given their very narrow majority in Congress, cannot pass significant legislation in this regard, as they need to persuade some Republicans to vote with them to ensure they have the necessary majority.
