The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of new floods that may hit several areas in Egypt today, Sunday, after satellite images showed this.

The authority revealed that according to the latest issue of satellite images, thunderstorm clouds are appearing over areas of the Red Sea mountain ranges and central Sinai, accompanied by intermittent rain that may reach flood levels.

It also indicated that there are chances of light to moderate rain, which can sometimes be thunderous, over areas of the Red Sea mountain ranges, South Sinai, and the Gulf of Aqaba, extending to the Gulf of Suez and southern Upper Egypt at intermittent times.

In the same context, the Egyptian authorities declared a state of emergency to face any expected floods, especially after the floods that hit the city of Safaga in the Red Sea Governorate south of the country last night, flooding the roads and cutting off a main road that connects it to Qena Governorate.

The Egyptian governorates expected to be exposed to floods today decided to raise the maximum state of readiness in all local units, directorates, and service authorities. They also decided to carry out patrols to monitor the maintenance of flood drainage channels, keep track of weather conditions around the clock, inform emergency response teams, and establish alternative routes in case some roads are closed.

The Egyptian authorities had received a report yesterday about heavy rain and floods in the city of Safaga, particularly in the 85-kilometer area, which led to traffic disruption and erosion of roads.
