A strong earthquake struck the Jajarkot area in western Nepal on the evening of Friday, November 3, 2023, causing the death of at least 128 people and injuring dozens.
The National Earthquake Monitoring Center in Nepal stated that the earthquake measured 6.4 on the Richter scale. It caused houses to collapse in the area and buildings trembled in neighboring New Delhi, India.
This earthquake is the most violent in Nepal since 2015, when about 9,000 people were killed by two earthquakes in the Himalayan country.
Officials also fear that the death toll from Friday's earthquake may rise, as they were unable to contact the mountainous area near its epicenter, located 500 kilometers west of the capital Kathmandu, where residents also felt tremors. The population of that area is 190,000, with villages scattered in the remote hills.
