The Arab Canada website obtained details about the murder of a businessman holding Israeli and Canadian nationality, who was killed in Egypt on Tuesday evening the day before yesterday in the city of Alexandria.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced today that Egyptian authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of an Israeli-Canadian businessman in the coastal city of Alexandria.
The Egyptian police stated in a statement that the businessman, who was "a permanent resident in the country," was shot dead last Tuesday evening.
In Israel, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the victim was a businessman holding both Israeli and Canadian citizenship.
"He had business in Egypt. The Israeli embassy in Cairo is in contact with the Egyptian authorities that are investigating the circumstances of this case," the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in its statement.
The Reuters news agency quoted an Egyptian security source as saying that the man was killed "for robbery motives."
However, a previously unknown group calling itself "Vanguard of Liberation" claimed responsibility for the murder of the Israeli-Canadian businessman.
The group stated in a message on the "Telegram" messaging platform that it killed him in response to the Israeli military campaign in the Palestinian Gaza Strip and the Israeli army's control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing at the border with Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
The group added that the victim is named Ze'ev Kiefer and accused him of working for Israeli intelligence, publishing a photo of him shot dead in his car.
However, Egyptian security sources stated that they have no information about the existence of this group or its involvement in this "incident."
In Ottawa, the Global Affairs Ministry expressed awareness of reports regarding the killing of a Canadian citizen who owned a business in Egypt, adding that it is in contact with Egyptian authorities regarding the case.
Since October 7th, the date of Hamas's attack on southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 Israelis, most of whom were civilians, Israel declared a war on the Gaza Strip in response, resulting in about 34,850 Palestinian casualties, most of whom were women and children. At least six Canadians have been killed in this new bloody chapter of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
It is worth noting that the victim's name is Ziv Kifer, who was residing in Egypt and was involved in importing fruits and vegetables and regularly entered Egypt with his Canadian passport.
Canadian media sources clarified that Kiefer's company, known as "OK Group," exports frozen okra, corn, beans, and other vegetables from Egypt, as well as citrus and fruits like strawberries, according to its website and social media posts.
On its LinkedIn account, the company, which is headquartered in Alexandria, describes itself as one of the largest food exporting companies in Egypt, selling products from its own farms and having offices in Ukraine and Israel.
