The shadows of violence will loom over the Canadian political scene this week following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Trump said he is fine and is now in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.

Canadian politicians condemned the acts of violence and called for unity, with the Minister of Public Safety stating that security agencies in the country are "exercising increased vigilance."

The Prime Minister's Office said on Sunday that Justin Trudeau spoke with the former president, reaffirming that there is no place for political violence and expressing condolences to the victims.

The American president, Joe Biden, said on Sunday that he ordered an independent security review of the events leading up to the attack on his political rival.
