The company producing Al’Fez natural flour has recalled its product due to Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The recall was issued on Sunday.

Following the recall, CFIA began an investigation into the food safety of other products, which may lead to further recalls, according to the government’s online site.

"Contaminated food with Salmonella may not look spoiled or smell bad, but it can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems may experience severe and sometimes fatal infections. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as: CFIA stated, "fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, while long-term complications may include severe arthritis."

No cases linked to consuming this product have been reported, the government’s website clarifies.

People who suspect they may have handled Salmonella are advised to contact their family doctor.

Those who have the product are asked to dispose of it.

CTV News reached out to Al'Fez for comment.
