Michael Stephen Connelly, 65, has been charged with sexual assault after a patient went to the police in October 2021 saying she was inappropriately touched without her consent during a 2012 consultation.

Since the police announced the charges in February, four others have come forward to report their experiences with the doctor. Connelly now faces four additional counts of sexual assault.

Sergeant First Class said, "Everyone should feel safe when seeking medical care."

Michelle Dowell from the Sexual Assault Unit at Calgary Police Service (CPS) added in a press statement, "It is particularly horrifying when members of our community fall victim to someone in a position of trust."

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month in Alberta. Police said, "Sexual violence can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or cultural background and can have serious effects on victims and their families."
