Canada imposes new sanctions on Russia including government institutions and clergy, as well as media outlets.

Canada has expanded the sanctions imposed on Russia and imposed restrictive measures against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill.

According to the list published today, Friday, Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyayev (Patriarch Kirill) has been subjected to the new Canadian sanctions.

The sanctions also included, according to the Canadian government website, the Regnum news agency and the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor), as well as Russian journalists, the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation.

The sanctions list included Channel One, the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, "RT", "Sputnik", and other media outlets.

Before Canada, Britain imposed sanctions in June on Patriarch Kirill and others because of their support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.

Regarding the sanctions on Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said yesterday that "Western sanctions have complicated the situation," and said that "the West has exacerbated the problems of developing countries by solving its own problems, while blaming Russia."

It is worth noting that the sanctions on Russia, imposed by Western countries due to the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, caused disruption to global supply chains and price increases. The impact was significantly felt in developing countries, which began to suffer from shortages of basic foodstuffs and fuel products.
