A source at the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy said today, Thursday, that Ukraine opposes Canada delivering to the Russian company Gazprom a turbine that Moscow says is important for supplying Germany with natural gas, while Kyiv believes such a move would violate sanctions imposed on Moscow.
A senior Energy Ministry source told Reuters that Kyiv expressed its opposition to this move and that the Ukrainian Energy Minister pressured Canada in June not to deliver the turbine manufactured by the German company Siemens in Canada.
The source said, “Sanctions prohibit the transfer of any gas-related equipment.”
He added, if, God forbid, this decision is approved, we will undoubtedly urge our European colleagues to reassess their approach. Because if countries do not follow the agreed-upon decisions regarding sanctions, then how can we talk about solidarity?”
