Metrolinx issued a message to public transit users on Canada Day: trains and fireworks do not mix.
This comes after two teenage boys set off fireworks on a GO train on Thursday evening.
Toronto police said that at around 9:30 p.m., a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were traveling on the train when the younger one set off the fireworks.
Police say the boys were pulled off the train at Rouge Hill station by GO Transit police officers.
Police said the 16-year-old was released, and the 14-year-old was charged with causing harm and fined $5,000.
A Metrolinx spokesperson said this is the second incident this week involving fireworks on trains and warned the public about the dangers of fireworks around trains and people.
Earlier this week, Metrolinx said fireworks were set off on another train, directly at one of the employees.
There were no reported injuries from these two incidents, but Metrolinx reminds people that setting off fireworks on the train is dangerous and can lead to charges and fines.
