Federal employees in 20 American agencies and ministries are planning to strike next Tuesday to protest against the way the administration of President Joe Biden is handling the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, according to the independent site "Al-Monitor".
The site pointed out that many employees from other agencies are expected to join the strike, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Park Service.
The planned strike reflects the growing anger among American officials due to the Biden administration's refusal to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, while the Israeli aggression has led to the martyrdom of more than 23,000 and injury of about 60,000 others, and the displacement of approximately 1.9 million Palestinians.
* What we know about the "United Federal Union for Peace" and why does it call for a strike?
It is a group consisting of dozens of government employees who will strike on a day they called "Day of Mourning" marking 100 days since the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip, while the organizers of the event expect hundreds to join the strike.
These agencies include the Executive Office of the President, the National Security Agency, the Departments of State, Defense, Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs, as well as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Naval Research Laboratory, according to a list obtained by "Al-Monitor".
The British Daily Mail newspaper said that the strike is a radical departure from the way senior federal employees have appeared in the past to express their disagreement with White House policy, which usually was limited to media leaks or public resignations due to the policy.
The newspaper continued that some individuals in the recently named "United Federal Union for Peace" say they have commitments from people inside 22 federal agencies regarding the strike, including from the Executive Office of the President, the National Security Agency, Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the Food and Drug Administration.
