The Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed today, Thursday, that the Israeli occupation forces targeted the bombing of the fifth floor of its headquarters in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip.
The Society's spokesperson, Nepal Farsakh, added in a brief press statement that at least one person was martyred and others were injured as a result of the bombing.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time the headquarters has been targeted by the occupation; the day before yesterday, Tuesday, several displaced persons were martyred and injured as a result of the occupation's airstrikes on it.
On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Palestinian Red Crescent, Abdel Jalil Hanjal, confirmed that coordination is taking place with the Egyptian Red Crescent to establish tents for displaced persons in Khan Yunis, with the first phase including 300 tents, reaching up to a thousand tents, to serve displaced persons unable to find shelter, in addition to coordination at the Rafah crossing to receive aid.
The Palestinian Red Crescent spokesperson said in an intervention to Nile News channel today, Thursday, that bombing operations targeting medical centers and their surroundings, including the Al-Amal Hospital affiliated with the society, continue, and schools, hospitals, and premises affiliated with international bodies are also targeted despite the coordinates being in the possession of the occupation forces.
He added that the situation of the displaced remains difficult due to the scarcity of relief materials, the cold weather, and even environmental and health conditions, as many of them live in tents, noting that there are more than 5,000 wounded in need of treatment abroad.
He pointed out that the occupation forces are targeting the entire medical sector in Gaza, where 320 medical staff and more than 38 civil defense members have been martyred, along with 102 journalists. The occupation forces also targeted 105 ambulances, completely destroyed 59 ambulances including 15 belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent, in addition to detonating all ambulances inside the Jabalia center and burning down the entire Al-Quds Hospital affiliated with the society.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that the number of martyrs resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression on the sector since last October 7 has risen to 22,438 martyrs and 57,614 injured, after the occupation committed 13 massacres killing 125 martyrs and injuring 318 during the past twenty-four hours.
Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, the ministry's spokesperson, said in a press briefing that the Israeli occupation is still detaining 99 health professionals, including hospital directors in northern Gaza, under severe and inhumane conditions with physical and psychological torture and starvation.
Al-Qudra described the Israeli occupation's behavior as criminal and said it poses a threat and danger to the Martyrs of Al-Aqsa Hospital and the Al-Awda Hospital in the central area, noting that the occupation places the Nasser Medical Complex and Al-Amal Hospital affiliated with the Red Crescent Society in Khan Yunis in the circle of targeting and recurrent danger.
Al-Qudra called on international institutions to take urgent action to protect hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip, ensure the arrival of the wounded and patients to them, and guarantee that the scenario of Al-Shifa Medical Complex is not repeated there.
