The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday morning that representatives of Hamas and the Palestinian Liberation Movement "Fatah" held talks in the capital, Beijing.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a press conference that representatives from Fatah and Hamas recently came to Beijing for an in-depth and frank dialogue on strengthening Palestinian reconciliation.

According to what the news agency "Reuters" published, both sides expressed the political will to achieve reconciliation through dialogue and agreed to continue the dialogue to achieve Palestinian unity as soon as possible.

Last Friday, the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement "Fatah," along with a diplomat residing in Beijing, stated that China would host talks to discuss efforts for internal reconciliation.

Reuters quoted officials from the Hamas and Fatah movements saying that the Hamas delegation is headed by political bureau member Musa Abu Marzouk, while Fatah's delegation is led by Azam al-Ahmad.

For his part, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that his country supports strengthening the Palestinian National Authority and supports all Palestinian factions to achieve reconciliation and enhance solidarity through dialogue and consultation.

Wang made these statements at a regular press conference in response to a question about holding a meeting between the Hamas and Fatah movements in Beijing and the role that China played in facilitating the meeting.

Moscow hosted a similar meeting at the end of February, to discuss the formation of a Palestinian unity government and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, as announced at the time, but it did not achieve significant progress.
