Australian authorities ordered hundreds of citizens to evacuate their homes today, Monday, after floods submerged parts of Victoria state, amid ongoing bad weather in the southeast of the country.
The American network "ABC News" reported that authorities asked citizens and tourists to leave immediately as floodwater levels rose to dangerous levels, with multiple warnings issued for floods and thunderstorms across Victoria, where floods submerged the streets.
Victoria's emergency services announced the rescue of 38 people from the floods, while rainfall in northeast Victoria is expected to exceed 200 millimeters.
Reports also came in about contamination of the local water supply system in southeast Victoria, and authorities warned that drinking unboiled tap water may cause stomach problems.
