The Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the North Caucasus Federal District announced the arrest of 83 people involved in the riots at Makhachkala Airport in the Republic of Dagestan.

The Interior Directorate said in a statement on Monday that "the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Security Service Directorate, and the Russian Investigative Committee in the Republic of Dagestan continue search and investigation efforts aimed at identifying the organizers of the riots at Makhachkala Airport and the participants, and arresting them."

It also confirmed that "so far, 83 people involved in unlawful activities have been detained."

It added that police officers carried out more than 50 searches and confiscated equipment and phones containing evidence of the detainees’ participation in the riots.

The Interior Ministry also confirmed that "the situation in the region is under the control of the security agencies, and any attempts to complicate it will be thwarted."

It is worth mentioning that a group of protesters stormed Makhachkala Airport in the Republic of Dagestan on Sunday night, on the eve of the arrival of a plane coming from Tel Aviv, searching for Israeli nationals and Jews, expressing their anger over the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip.

Clashes occurred between protesters and police officers, resulting in more than 20 injuries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Western intelligence on Monday of inciting riots in Russia.
