The International Union of Muslim Scholars announced on Monday the death of its former president, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who is considered the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Below we present to you the biography of al-Qaradawi according to what was mentioned on the official website of the International Union of Muslim Scholars:

Yusuf al-Qaradawi was born in one of the villages of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the village of Saft Turab, Al-Mahalla Al-Kubra Center, Al-Gharbia Governorate, which is an ancient village where the last companion who died in Egypt, Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Juz’ Al-Zubaidi, was buried, as stated by Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar and others. Al-Qaradawi was born there on 9/9/1926 AD and completed the memorization of the Holy Quran and mastered its Tajweed rules before the age of ten.

He joined Al-Azhar institutes, where he completed his primary and secondary education and was always at the forefront. He ranked second in the secondary certificate in the Egyptian kingdom despite the circumstances of his detention during that period.

Then he joined the College of Usul al-Din at Al-Azhar University, from which he obtained the Alia degree in 1952-1953 AD, ranking first among his colleagues, whose number was one hundred and eighty.

Then he obtained the Alameya degree along with a teaching license from the Faculty of Arabic Language in 1954 AD, ranking first among his colleagues from the three Azhar faculties' graduates, who numbered five hundred.

In 1958, he obtained a diploma from the Institute of Higher Arabic Studies in Language and Literature.

In 1960 AD, he obtained the higher preparatory study equivalent to a master's degree in the division of Quranic and Sunnah Sciences from the College of Usul al-Din.

In 1973 AD, he obtained a PhD with distinction and first-class honors from the same college on: “Zakat and Its Impact on Solving Social Problems.”

According to the union, “Al-Qaradawi is one of the prominent Islamic figures in the present era in knowledge, thought, da’wah, and jihad, throughout the Islamic world east and west.. There is no contemporary Muslim who has not encountered him reading a book, or a message, or an article, or a fatwa, or listening to a lecture, or a sermon, or a lesson, or a talk, or an answer, in a mosque or university, or a club, or radio, or television, or tape, or other media. His activity in serving Islam is not limited to one aspect, or a specific field, or a particular color; rather, his activity has widened, its aspects diversified, its fields multiplied, and he left clear marks in each of them that indicate and point to him.”
