Authorities say that a number of homes in Carstairs, Alta, were in the process of evacuation before large grass fires near the complex were brought under control.

Canadian police, along with fire crews, responded to the scene south of the town of Carstairs on Friday afternoon.

Initially, the grass fire was listed as out of control. Members of the Carstairs Fire Department as well as members of the Didsbury RCMP detachment were called to assist in the situation.

Crews from Olds, Didsbury, Sundre, and Cremona were also dispatched. Police officers were also on standby for any potential evacuations.

All affected residents took refuge at the community hall in Carstairs. No injuries were reported. Carstairs is located about 65 kilometers north of Calgary.
