The Iraqi National Security Council, chaired by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, held an emergency meeting today, Thursday, to investigate the circumstances of the bombing of a Popular Mobilization Forces headquarters in the capital Baghdad.
The Iraqi government described in a statement today the attack by a drone targeting one of the security headquarters in the capital Baghdad, which resulted in casualties in this completely rejected incident, describing what happened as a blatant assault and a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty and security.
The Iraqi government affirmed in a press statement that the Iraqi armed forces hold the International Coalition forces responsible for this unjustified attack on an Iraqi security entity operating within the powers granted to it by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which undermines all understandings between the Iraqi armed forces and the International Coalition forces.
The Iraqi government considered this targeting a serious escalation and an assault on Iraq, far from the spirit and text of the mandate and the work for which the International Coalition exists in Iraq.
Earlier, the Iraqi police reported that the logistical support headquarters of the Al-Nujaba Movement (Brigade 12 in the Popular Mobilization Authority) on Palestine Street east of the capital Baghdad was bombed by a drone, resulting in the killing of the commander of the twelfth brigade in the Al-Nujaba Movement "Abu Taqwa Al-Saidi," in addition to the logistical support official in the movement "Ali Abu Sajjad," and injuring 11 people.
Aircraft were flying over the skies of the Iraqi capital Baghdad after the bombing of the popular headquarters.
An Iraqi security source confirmed that the American aircraft that targeted the Popular Mobilization Forces headquarters launched from Al-Taji Airbase north of the capital Baghdad.
