Criminal complaints have been filed against the President of the Israeli occupation entity, Isaac Herzog, coinciding with his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week, raising significant questions about the possibility of investigating or even arresting him.

The Swiss prosecution has not announced the contents of the complaints but confirmed to Al Jazeera Net receiving them and that it is discussing with the Swiss Foreign Ministry the issue of Herzog's immunity. However, a statement believed to be from those behind the complaints called for prosecuting the President of the occupation entity alongside South Africa's case before the International Court of Justice against him, on charges of committing genocide in Gaza.

Ali Saleh Bin Hadeed, a lawyer specializing in international law residing in Geneva, explained that "filing the complaints does not directly lead to initiating an investigation and issuing an indictment by the public prosecutor," noting that even if Swiss judicial decisions are issued, they are not binding on other countries, but "filing the case carries great symbolism and causes significant embarrassment to Israeli officials."

The Swiss public prosecutor also did not clarify the identity of the party or parties who filed the complaints, but the French news agency AFP quoted a group called "Judicial Action Against Crimes Against Humanity" in a statement saying that several individuals filed these complaints in 3 Swiss cities: Basel, Bern, and Zurich.

Bin Hadeed told Al Jazeera Net, a former diplomat who served as Deputy Head of the Arab Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, that the lawsuit might push the President of the Israeli occupation entity to avoid entering or transiting through Switzerland due to the possibility of investigation, as former minister Tzipi Livni did, against whom a complaint was filed in Switzerland in 2017 for committing war crimes.
