The Egyptian President discussed with the Emir of Qatar efforts to achieve a ceasefire, and they affirmed their rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause at the expense of the Palestinians or the countries of the region, and attempts at forced displacement.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, said: "Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, discussed the Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip, and the related regional challenges that push the region in dangerous and unpredictable directions. In this context, the two leaders discussed the best ways to protect innocent civilians in Gaza and stop the bloodshed, where intensive efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and sustaining the flow of humanitarian aid in quantities that meet the needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza were reviewed. They also affirmed the rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause at the expense of the Palestinian people or the countries of the region, and rejected attempts at forced displacement."
According to the statement, the two sides also affirmed "the continuation of consultations to stop the current escalation to reduce the suffering of civilians and spare the blood of the brotherly Palestinian people, leading to the establishment of his independent state in accordance with international legitimacy references and achieving just peace in the region."
The two parties praised "the ongoing development in the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and agreed to continue activating various frameworks of cooperation and mechanisms of consultation and coordination at all levels between the two countries."
This visit by the Emir of Qatar comes within the framework of Egyptian coordination with all concerned parties to address the current crisis in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt and Qatar are making joint efforts to release the hostages held by the Hamas movement in exchange for a ceasefire for a day or two in the Gaza Strip or in exchange for a prisoner swap operation between the two sides.
