At least 11 people died; due to heavy rains that fell yesterday Sunday in Rio de Janeiro and its surroundings, according to the fire brigades in the Brazilian city.
According to the "Washington Times" newspaper, a "state of emergency" was declared in parts of the city, where a total of 200 mm of rain fell in the past twenty-four hours, which is more than what was expected for the entire month of January.
About 10 bus lines were closed, in addition to a number of metro stations due to flooding, as a result of drowning, electric shock, and landslides, and firefighters are still searching for a missing woman after her car was swept away due to a river flood.
Firefighters in Rio said they carried out 200 interventions, most of which were rescue and assistance operations due to floods and landslides.
The National Center for Monitoring and Warning of Natural Disasters warned of a "very high" risk of landslides in 8 municipalities in the state of Rio.
