The bodies of at least 11 hikers were found after a volcanic eruption in western Indonesia, according to the "Agence France-Presse" on Monday, December 4, 2023.
Abdel Malik, head of the search and rescue agency in Padang, said, "There are 26 people who have not been evacuated; we found 14, including three alive and 11 dead."
A volcano in western Indonesia erupted on Sunday, releasing a column of ash reaching three thousand meters high, leading to the evacuation of dozens of hikers around its crater, officials said.
The authorities also imposed a restricted zone around the crater of Merapi volcano located on Sumatra Island, which has a peak height of 2891 meters, after placing it at the third highest alert level.
