WestJet Airlines announced that the agreement reached on June 30, 2024, between the company and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), the union representing aircraft maintenance engineers and other technical operations staff, has been ratified.
The company stated in a release, "While we are grateful to have reached a solution through a strong agreement and a clear path forward together as a unified team, we acknowledge the impact of the work disruptions preceding this agreement that continue to concern our customers, the communities we serve, and our people."
"So we are working diligently to restore our operations and remain committed to returning to normal, while keeping our focus on safely and affordably connecting our guests to the people and places that matter to them."
For his part, WestJet Airlines Executive Vice President and CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech stated, "Reaching this milestone is good news for our organization and our guests, as it strengthens a five-year agreement that provides stability for our business and reflects the value and contributions of our aircraft maintenance engineers and other technical operations staff."
Von Hoensbroech added, "If you were affected by a flight cancellation, please visit our customer updates page for details on the options available to you and the best way to proceed. Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and loyalty, and we look forward to welcoming you on board soon."
