The American "ABC" channel revealed on Thursday that the United States will provide Ukraine with 100 armed tactical drones to support it in facing the Russian military operation there.
The channel stated that the military aid to Ukraine, announced by US President Joe Biden yesterday, Wednesday, worth 800 million dollars, includes sending 100 tactical drones.
It quoted an unnamed American official as saying that "the 100 drones heading to Ukraine are small drones of the Switchblade model."
The channel pointed out that these mentioned drones are not like the large drones usually seen, but rather small drones, the smallest model of which can fit in backpacks.
It added that these tactical drones of the "Switchblade" model fly directly towards the target to detonate their small warhead.
The "Switchblade 300" drones can fly for up to 15 minutes after being launched and weigh only 2.49 kilograms, according to the American manufacturer "AeroVironment".
Meanwhile, the larger "Switchblade 600" drones are effective against armored targets and can fly for more than 40 minutes, but they weigh 22.68 kilograms.
The channel explained that the American official could not specify whether one or both of the systems will be sent to Ukraine as part of the military aid.
On Wednesday evening, US President Joe Biden announced, during a speech at the White House, new military aid to Ukraine worth 800 million dollars, including drones to support its forces in facing the Russian military operation.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on the dawn of February 24, followed by angry international reactions and the imposition of "strict" economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.
